Microblading has become an increasingly popular cosmetic treatment in the UK, offering individuals the chance to achieve fuller, more defined eyebrows through a semi-permanent tattooing technique. The process utilises a fine handheld tool that precisely etches hair-like strokes onto the skin, ultimately creating a natural and realistic appearance of fuller brows. This treatment is particularly favoured by those looking to enhance their eyebrows, either due
to thinning, over-plucking or simply dissatisfaction with their natural shape and thickness.
Manual Microstroking, sometimes referred to as Microblading, Brow Micropigmentation, Manual Technique, Hand Method Eyebrow Permanent Makeup, Feather Brows, 3D-6D Brows, Cosmetic Tattooing and Eyebrow Embroidery. Manual Microstroking is done by using a unique hand instrument with a small row of very fine needles that deposit pigment into the epidermis with slicing, feathering strokes. This creates very crisp, fine hair strokes.
This method is ideal for anyone wanting to enhance the look of their eyebrows. The results are natural looking, hair-like strokes, regardless of the amount of hair present.
People suffering from alopecia, trigonometrically or any other condition that causes hair loss benefit greatly from Microblading, as well as people who simply aren’t happy with their eyebrows.
The results are a natural, flawless, fuller looking brow. Initially, the brows appear darker, but fade significantly over a two-week period. It is absolutely crucial to have a touch up done, as it is very difficult to predict how well the skin will retain the pigment.
The results can last anywhere from 11 to 18 months, depending on different factors affecting the procedure. However, a touch up once a year is recommended to retain the shape and saturation of pigment.

Understanding Different Brow Treatments
Your Guide to Semi-Permanent Brow Treatments
Achieving perfectly shaped, natural-looking eyebrows has never been easier, thanks to semi-permanent brow treatments. At Defined by Linda, we offer expertly crafted eyebrow enhancements that save you time on your daily beauty routine while providing long-lasting, flawless results. Below, we explore four of the most popular brow techniques: Nano Brows, Microblading, Powder Brows, and Combo Brows.
This is just a guide, I can discuss best options for you during your consultation.
Nano Brows (Hyper Realism)
Nano Brows are an advanced form of eyebrow tattooing that delivers ultra-fine, realistic hair strokes using a digital machine. Unlike traditional microblading, which uses a manual blade, Nano Brows use a single-needle tattoo machine to implant pigment with precision. This technique is gentler on the skin, making it an excellent choice for those with sensitive or oily skin types.
Benefits of Nano Brows:
Mimics natural eyebrow hair with delicate, crisp strokes
Longer-lasting results compared to traditional microblading
Suitable for all skin types, including oily and mature skin
Less trauma to the skin, promoting better pigment retention
Nano Brows are ideal for clients looking for a hyper-realistic, soft, and natural finish that blends seamlessly with their natural hair growth.
Microblading
Microblading is one of the most sought-after semi-permanent eyebrow tattoo techniques. It involves using a handheld tool with tiny, fine-point needles to deposit pigment into the skin, creating the illusion of natural eyebrow hairs.
Benefits of Microblading:
Perfect for those with sparse or over-plucked brows
Creates ultra-fine, hair-like strokes for a natural effect
Ideal for dry to normal skin types
Lasts between 12 to 18 months with proper aftercare
Microblading is best suited for individuals who prefer a subtle, hair-stroke appearance without the need for daily eyebrow makeup.
Powder Brows (Ombre Brows)
Powder Brows, also known as Ombre Brows, involve shading the brows using a machine technique, creating a soft, powdered makeup effect. Unlike Microblading, which focuses on hair strokes, Powder Brows result in a fuller, more defined brow look.
Benefits of Powder Brows:
Great for all skin types, including oily skin
Longer-lasting than Microblading (typically 2 to 3 years)
Customisable for a soft, natural gradient or a bold, defined brow
Minimal trauma to the skin, allowing for a smooth healing process
The Ombre effect starts lighter at the front of the brows and gradually darkens towards the tail, giving a beautifully blended, natural finish.
Combo Brows (Microblading/Nano Brow + Powder Brows)
Combo Brows combine the best of Microblading and Powder Brows, giving you both hair-like strokes and a soft shaded finish. This hybrid technique creates a fuller, more defined brow while maintaining a natural appearance.
Benefits of Combo Brows:
Provides the realism of Microblading with the depth of Powder Brows
Ideal for those with sparse or thin brows
Suitable for most skin types
Offers a natural yet polished look with long-lasting results
Combo Brows are the perfect choice for those who want defined yet natural-looking brows with extra depth and dimension.

Consultation
The microblading process begins with a thorough consultation. During this initial meeting, we will discuss various aspects such as your desired brow shape, colour and overall expectations. It is important to share any medical conditions, allergies or concerns so we can ensure a safe and effective procedure.
Mapping and Outline
Once the consultation is complete, we will will begin the final look at mapping and outlining the new brow shape. This step involves measuring your facial features and creating a symmetrical, customised design tailored to your unique face structure.
Eyebrow treatment Procedure
The final stage of the process is the treatment procedure itself. Utilising a machine and blade, the practitioner makes punctures in the skin, creating fine, mimicking soft hair strokes. These hair strokes are carefully etched into the upper layers of the skin, allowing for the semi-permanent pigment to be deposited. Multiple layers may be necessary to achieve the desired results.
Immediately After the Procedure
After the eyebrow treatment, it is important to follow proper aftercare instructions to ensure the best results. The immediate aftercare involves gentle cleaning and applying a protective ointment to the treated area.
Cleaning: Use a damp sponge or washcloth to dab the area around the eyebrows gently with warm water and a mild soap. Avoid touching the brows themselves and make sure not to scrub or rub the area.
Ointment: Apply a thin layer of ointment prescribed by your technician to keep the area moist and reduce the risk of infection. This is usually done multiple times a day for the first few days after the procedure.
Ongoing Aftercare
As your skin starts to heal, following these ongoing aftercare measures will help achieve the best results with least discomfort:
Tenderness and Itching: It’s normal for the treated area to feel tender and itchy during the healing process, which typically takes 25 to 30 days. Refrain from scratching or picking at the brows, as this can cause scarring or affect the pigment.
Flaking and Peeling: Your skin may begin to flake or peel during the healing process. Do not pick or pull the flakes; let them shed naturally.
Scabbing: Microblading may cause some scabbing around the treated area. Avoid picking or removing scabs, as doing so can affect the pigment and final results.
Avoid Swimming: Do not submerge your brows in water, including swimming pools, beaches, or baths, during the healing process.
Avoid Saunas: Stay away from saunas, steam rooms, and hot tubs until the skin has fully healed, as exposure to steam and heat can affect the treated area. Source
Following these aftercare guidelines diligently can greatly contribute to achieving the best possible results from your microblading treatment.
Healing Process and Touch-Ups
The healing process after a microblading procedure can generally be broken down into a few stages. It is normal to experience some redness, swelling, and tenderness during the first few days. Scabs may also form on the eyebrows as the micro-wounds heal.
On day one, the eyebrows will appear darker than desired due to the fresh pigment. However, clients should be reassured that the colour will fade over time as the healing process continues. By days five to seven, the scabs and flakes on the eyebrows start to fall off, making way for new skin. It’s important not to touch or pick at the healing eyebrow area though, as doing so could interfere with the healing process and increase the risk of complications.
Throughout the healing period, which typically lasts 25 to 30 days, clients should follow the aftercare instructions provided above. This may include avoiding sun exposure, applying antibacterial ointments, and resisting the urge to touch or apply makeup on the brows.
After the initial healing process, clients should expect to have a touch-up or follow-up appointment. This first session is often scheduled six to eight weeks after the first microblading session. During the touch-up, the microblading technician will assess the healed results and make any necessary adjustments or enhancements to ensure a balanced and refined appearance. Touch-ups are crucial to achieving the best possible results and maintaining the appearance of the semi-permanent eyebrows.
